How To Become a Bus Driver

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement

  • Must have a clean driving record with no DUI

How to Create Pupil Transportation Registration in Your AIM Account

  • Log in to your AIM Account

  • Click on the Pupil Transportation Box

  • Click on Application

  • Click New

  • Complete Questionnaire and SUBMIT

How to Complete ACCS Theory Class

  • Candidate will receive an email with class registration instructions from the ACCS

  • Candidate will complete online modules pertaining to the following topics:

    • Class B CDL Endorsement

    • Passenger Endorsement

    • School Bus Endorsement

How To Obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License

After Passing the CDL Test:

  • You will be given a CDL Learner’s Permit (CLP)

  • Attend a 4-hour training orientation meeting

  • Train with an SCBOE employee and become proficient with:

    • Backing Course

    • Pre-Trip Inspection

    • Driving Skills Test

  • Attend a 12-hour State Department of Education New Bus Driver Certification Class -  3 days

    • Score at least 80% on a written test given at the end of the 12-hour instruction class.

    • Pre-Trip Inspection

    • Backing Course

    • Driving Skills Test

    • Copy of high school diploma or transcript, GED, or college diploma or transcript

    • Copy of Social Security Card

How To Keep An Alabama School Bus Driver Certification

In order to maintain their school bus driver certification, school bus drivers are required to participate in a 4 hour recertification class.  These classes are scheduled in all school systems and are taught between January 1st and December 31st annually.

 Drivers who fail to attend the required recertification class must return to a new driver class and be performance tested.
